  • The Application Of Cu In Stainless Steel

    Stainless steel has a wide range of applications in deep processing. Stainless steel has been widely used in tableware, kitchenware, sanitary products, etc. In the case of high Ni prices, more manufacturers use low-cost stainless steel to replace 304 stainless steel with high production costs.

    Softer grades can be obtained by reducing the content of N, but on this premise, the content of Cr should be reduced to reduce the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. Adding Cu is another solution, which can keep the content of Ni and Cr stable while reducing the content of N. The austenite phase formation ability of Cu can be further utilized to replace and reduce the Ni content in steel (at fixed N). The more copper content, the easier to be stamped, and the less Ni content, the cheaper stainless steel is.

    In stainless steel, Cu are easily reacted with S to form CuS or Cu2S. These two compounds exist stably, which hinder the continuity and integrity of passivation film and reduce the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.

    Cu is a heavy metal, which can kill bacteria in active state and can be used as antimicrobial stainless steel. At the same time, if the stainless steel is not used properly, copper ions will spill over, which will easily cause pollution and have adverse effects on human body.
