  • The meaning of SUS
    Aug 27, 2018

In the stainless steel industry, an English abbreviation: SUS is often encountered. So what does SUS mean?

SUS is a Japanese material standard, is the prefix of stainless steel in the Japanese JIS standard. The Japanese standards are issued with drafting instructions. In the appendix of the instructions, the evolution of steel number setting and the characteristics and uses of the steel number listed in the standard are listed. If the Japanese steel number is imported from the United States, it is prefixed with the three-digit prefix "SUS" (abbreviated as "steel use stainless" in English), but unlike ASTM (American Materials and Testing Association), the Japanese steel number is prefixed with the suffix "J" to denote Japan. For example, "SUS 316J1" is different from "SUS 316". Commonly used stainless steel grades are SUS303, SUS304, SUS316L and so on.
