  • How much do you know about duplex stainless steel? (1)
    Aug 10, 2018

Duplex stainless steel refers to the ferrite and austenite each accounted for about 50%, generally less phase content at least 30% of the stainless steel. In the case of low C, the content of Cr is in 18%~28%, and the content of Ni is 3%~10%. Some of the steel also contain alloy elements such as Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, N and so on.

This kind of steel has the characteristics of both austenite and ferritic stainless steel. Compared with ferrite, it has higher plasticity, toughness, no room temperature brittleness, intergranular corrosion resistance and weldability, and maintains the 475℃ brittleness and high thermal conductivity of ferritic stainless steel. Compared with austenitic stainless steel, it has higher strength, intergranular corrosion resistance and chloride stress corrosion resistance. The dual phase stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance and is also a kind of stainless steel.

Duplex stainless steel has been developed to the third generation since it was born in the United States in 1940s. Its main feature is that the yield strength can reach 400-550 MPa, which is twice as high as that of ordinary stainless steel, so it can save materials and reduce the cost of equipment manufacturing. The corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steel is better than that of common austenitic stainless steel, especially in the bad medium environment (such as sea water, high chloride content). It can be compared with high alloy austenitic stainless steel.
